To the east it borders the Waldsee district, to the south, separated by Schwarzwaldstrasse, it borders Oberwiehre, and to the west it borders the old town. The Dreisam flows through the entire east-west stretch of the district.Oberau is served by tram line 1, which runs along Schwarzwaldstrasse.
